Bonjour à tous !
Here we are, back to learn more fun facts about France and its cultures. Today, we will talk about the 21st of June, which represent several events wrapped up into one day: where does it come from, and how do we celebrate, everything is here.
I also included a paragraph in French + Grammar + Translation + Audio at the end to help you practice your French.
In the late seventies, American musician Joel Cohen started by celebrating the "Saturnales" every 21st of June and 21st of December, by having a whole night of live music on the days of the solstices. It was later officially put in place as a holiday by then Ministry of Culture Jack Lang in 1982.
Since 2011, the celebration has been extended to over 110 countries all over the world, sometimes under its French sobriquet "La Fête de La Musique" or World Music Day
The festival is celebrated by a night of concerts, mainly outdoor, to celebrate music, joy, summer and for numerous teenagers the end of the school year and Baccalauréat. Even smaller more modest cities organize concerts, from local groups and bands and that is what makes La Fête de la Musique so fun and universal, it is widely celebrated throughout the country no matter if you live in Paris or in the Burgundy's countryside.
